SharePoint: Upgrade or Move on?

With SharePoint 2010 users being forced to either upgrade or lose their support, there’s no better time than now to decide if SharePoint is the best system for you. Anything being done with SharePoint on the enterprise level is going to be complicated, time-consuming, and expensive. For any endeavor like that, it’s more than worth it to invest in an assessment.

Software solutions are often purchased and implemented without a complete set of requirements for what the organization was looking to get out of it. If you have those requirements already, now is the time to ask if SharePoint is meeting them. If not, now is the time to get the formal documentation of your functional requirements for what SharePoint should be doing for your organization.

From there, you can perform a gap analysis. If SharePoint is meeting your needs, then an upgrade and migration to the newest suite is all you need. Otherwise, it’s time to seek alternative solutions.
