This ERP Software and Services company needed to better understand resource utilization to support rapid growth in their organization. Accurate resource availability figures were required to:
- Determine available resources
- Support Presales
- Set delivery expectations
- Determine and prioritize which skills sets needed to be recruited
- Understand potential variances and manage client expectations
Project Assistants quickly identified the need to optimize the use of Microsoft Project’s multi-project and resource pool capabilities. We worked with key team leaders to build a common resource pool that clearly identified the capacity of each major facility. We linked common resource pool with the labor information in the PeopleSoft Project Accounting module to provide historical resource performance information that supported the re-projection of both labor and cost forecasts.
This produced a “consolidated master scheduled,” which enabled a straightforward approach to identifying resource conflicts and re-working program priorities. The resulting environment has provided a number of significant benefits, including:
